Proposed upgrades to Football & Netball Pavilion

Public Drop-In Wednesday 6th August 2.00pm – 4.00pm  BHFNC Clubrooms enter off Bluff Road, Barwon Heads.

Background

The Barwon Heads Football Netball Club has a lease on coastal Crown land managed by Barwon Coast Committee of Management (Barwon Coast). It is located within the grounds of Barwon Heads Caravan Park, with main access via Bluff Road. 

As outlined further below, the proposed project includes the refurbishment of the existing Football Club Pavilion and the construction of a new Netball Pavillion adjacent the existing Netball Courts.

Proposed netball pavilion

A new, single storey netball pavilion is proposed immediately to the north-east of the existing netball courts.

This will result in the relocation of an existing caravan structures, watertank, and removal of some associated temporary structures, including the removal of the existing temporary netball pavilion to the South of the existing Netball courts.

The building provides for:

  • A store and concealed services fronting the existing bitumen road to the East.
  • Contemporary main building incorporating umpires’ amenities, change rooms, family bathroom, administration room and first aid room.
  • A south-facing, covered terrace overlooking the existing netball courts.
  • Complementary landscaping to the North and East of the proposed building.
  • External materials, including colorbond metal roof and wall cladding, grey blockwork and timber wall panelling.

Proposed extension/alterations to existing Football Pavilion (MPF)

It is also proposed to extend the existing Barwon Heads Football Club pavilion to include upgrades to changeroom facilities and all abilities access. Minor demolition of the existing pavilion will be required to facilitate the upgrade works

The majority of works will be within the existing building footprint, however the northern and eastern facades to the pavilion will be extended outwards at ground and the upper level.  Works shall include:

Ground Floor

  • Demolition and reconstruction of existing northern and eastern facades, resulting in extended Home and Visitor changerooms, trainers and first aid facilities, new storeroom and gym, new public amenities, including relocated and extended umpire changerooms.
  • Removal and replacement of balustrades.
  • New ground level terrace for improved spectator viewing.
  • New stairs to North and East of pavilion.
  • Complementary landscaping.

First Floor

  • Introduction of the new main entrance to the Western frontage.
  • Removal and extension of first floor decking to the north.
  • Extension of first floor decking to north and south-east for improved spectator viewing.
  • Extension to first floor multipurpose room to north and construction of meeting room and office.
  • Additional kitchen store to west.
  • Installation of new balustrades to first floor deck.

Materials to be used will include colorbond roofing, timber wall cladding, grey blockwork to match existing and grey aluminium balustrades.

Community Engagement

As these projects will be of interest to the public and communities of Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove who use the Club as part of their foreshore experience, we are undertaking an engagement program to:

  • Educate the community on the need and purpose of the new Netball Pavillion and MPF refurbishment works.
  • Seek feedback from the community on any aspects that the community may have an interest in.

The following engagement activities will be conducted as follows;

  1. Project information will be available on this website with a contact email for the public to provide commentary and ask any questions.  Responses to Frequently Asked Question will be uploaded for advice as they are received and once responses are provided.
  2. A notification will be placed on the Barwon Heads FNC Instagram and Facebook sites, pointing the public to the website details.
  3. A drop-in session is to be held at the Football Club on Wednesday 6th August 2.00-4.00pm.
  4. Public advertising will be conducted via the CoGG Town Planning process. Details on the process, commencement and duration of the advertising process will be available via the CoGG website once advertising commences.
